1) Should I take NightKap every night?
Yes. NightKap was created to support healthy neuro-hormone production in the brain which helps achieve deep, natural sleep.
2) Is NightKap addictive?
None of the ingredients in NightKap have yet to be proven addictive. However, a great night's sleep could be considered mighty addictive!
3) When should I take NightKap?
For best results, NightKap should be taken 30 min before bedtime on an empty stomach.
4) How many NightKaps should I take?
Everyone's biochemistry is different. Dr. Rutledge recommends to his patients that they start with one capsule and see how it works. If one capsule doesn't produce the desired result, increase to two capsules at bedtime for a few days and if this still doesn't help produce deep, natural sleep, you may increase to 3 capsules nightly. If you find 3 capsules (in some cases 4 capsules) working best for you, try going back to two caps nightly after two weeks at 3 capsules nightly and see how you sleep.
5) How long does it take to work?
Again, everyone's biochemistry and neurotransmitter levels are unique. It works immediately for most but can take up to two months to help reset the natural deep sleep patterns of those that have dependence on prescription sleep medicines.
6) Can I take NightKap with other prescription sleep medicines?
Yes. There are no known interactions between the ingredients in NightKap and prescription sleep medicines. However, always discuss with your healthcare provider.
7) If I take prescription sleep medicines and would like to wean off of them, how do I do that?
Weaning prescription medicines is best overseen by your healthcare provider. However, in Dr. Rutledge's medical practice, he will frequently have patients start Nightkap and build to higher dose of up to 3 or 4 capsules nightly while CONTINUING to take the prescription sleep medicine. After about 5-7 days of taking both, he then recommends to patients a slow weaning of the prescription sleep medicine over a period of weeks to months while continuing the NightKap at the higher doses. Once the prescription sleep medicine is weaned off, then the process of finding the right dose of NightKap can be determined by slowly weaning NightKap down to 1, 2, or 3 capsules nightly as well as checking neurotransmitter levels and adjusting the dose.
8) If I take prescription medicines, can I take NightKap?
In most cases, yes. However, since NightKap does contain 5HTP which helps boost serotonin, those taking SSRI (serotonin re-uptake inhibitors) should be aware that it can increase serotonin levels when taken together. In Dr. Rutledge's medical practice, he will frequently add NightKap, 5HTP, and other nutrients to the regimens of patients who wish to wean off of the anti-depressant. Also, those taking chemotherapy drugs or any other medications in question should consult with their health care provider.
9) Does NightKap help reduce carbohydrate cravings?
Most report that it does. This "side benefit" is thought to be due mostly to the 5-HTP component of NightKap.
10) Will I feel "hung over" or groggy from taking NightKap?
The proper dose of NightKap generally does not produce a groggy feeling the next morning. Most report increased energy, clarity, and zest. However, if one increases the dose there may be a slight grogginess the next morning. This effect should fade over the next few nights as the body gets used to the increased dose.
11) Is NightKap safe for children?
NightKap is best for those age 18 and older but should not harm children if they were to take it. Melatonin and 5HTP have not been studied in children and is therefore not recommended.
12) Can people with Autoimmune disorders take NightKap?
Yes they can. There has to be a warning on all products containing melatonin for people with autoimmune disorders based on an old study that has never been replicated. However, the manufacturer's legal department will not produce a bottle without that warning. Dr. Rutledge has many patients with autoimmune disorders that take NightKap nightly and feel great.
